“THE JAMIESON GOLD-FIELDS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ARGUS.

Sir,-In noticing the report of P. H. Smith, Esq., the warden, we can testify to the truth of his statements as to the richness of these diggings. A customer of ours, who came from them last week, positively states that the diggers, to a man, are doing remarkably well, and that there is fifty miles of good payable ground. He had to take his gold to Beechworth, there being so much offering and no cash to exchange for it. If the diggers who are rushing to New Zealand would try their luck at the Jamieson’s first, we are certain they would not regret it. One party of six cleared £800 in a fortnight from a creek claim, and since that time have come upon a reef of quartz of surprising richness.” – The Argus, 2nd September 1861
