Dunolly is a popular destination for gold prospectors and tourists, with the wider region being famous throughout history for its size and quantity of alluvial gold.
The world-famous Welcome Stranger gold nugget was brought here to Dunolly to be weighed, after its discovery at nearby Moliagul.
The anvil the Welcome Stranger gold nugget was broken up on is now on display in front of the Dunolly Museum, and is complemented by a striking mural across the road, depicting the re-enactment of the nugget’s discovery.
